Diet
1. Add Omega 3 Fatty Acids
As the fall crisp air starts to settle in you may begin to experience joint pain or stiffness in the morning. Adding omega 3 fatty acids to your diet is a great way to reduce joint pain and stiffness. Omega 3 fatty acids are a healthy type of fat that are naturally found in many foods such as fish, plant seeds and nuts and they are a natural anti-inflammatory. Studies have also shown that omega 3 fatty acids help lower levels of depression, which people commonly feel during the shorter days of winter.
2. Eat More Green Vegetables (Immune boosting foods)
Sticking primarily to dark green vegetables and citrus fruits are important for ensuring you’re getting healthy nutrients, sugars and fats. Green vegetables such as spinach, kale, and broccoli are super-charged with vitamins and minerals which help give your immune system a super-charge. Swiss chard, squash, carrots and oranges are all delicious options that also boost your immune system during the winter. Check out Pinterest for plenty of recipes to incorporate these items into your regular winter diet. Get creative, add different colors and textures.

3. Workout at Home
The extreme temperatures and changes in elements (ice, snow, sleet, extremely low temps, etc.) during cooler months can make working out in the outdoors undesirable but fear not. Technology has made it easy to access workout resources with the click of a button, there are plenty of resources online and in your app store that supply fun workout videos and exercises for every level. These resources offer a variety of workouts including yoga, strength training, aerobics and other body-weight exercises. Check out YouTube for tons of great resources so you can get fit in the comfort of your own living room.
As always consult your doctor before starting any new workout plan.
4. Get fit with Xbox Kinect or Wii Fit
Just like the online workout videos, a Microsoft Xbox 360, Xbox One, or Nintendo Wii is a fun and convenient way to stay fit during winter and have fun at the same time. These gaming devices provide virtual workouts to direct the user through several exercises like boxing, yoga, strength training, aerobics, dancing and more. It can be adjusted to fit your personal goals. Both systems have several game options to help you get and stay fit. I’ve listed some suggestions below.
These diet and exercises tips are great, specifically in the winter, but they can also be used year-round.
